About this Book

This travelogue, with a unique copy in the National Library of Iran, describes the mission of a person attached to the court of Nasser al-Din Shah who first went to Isfahan and then to Shiraz to deliver the khulaat from the Shah.
The author of this travelogue is Jafar Qoli Khan Etemadi, nicknamed "Jalal al-Molk" or "Moin al-Sultan", the son of Isa Khan Etemadi al-Dawlah, the cousin of Nasser al-Din Shah and the son-in-law of Zil al-Sultan. He and his brother Majdal-Dawlah were considered servants and close associates of the king who accompanied the king on most of his numerous domestic and foreign trips. During his relatively long life, Jafar Qoli Khan acquired titles such as: Ghulam Bechebashi, Jalal al-Molk, Hajib al-Dawlah and Moin al-Sultan. When he made this trip, he had the title Jalal al-Mak.
